Lower cost of material and labor

There are substantial labor and hardware installation savings associated with PlantWeb compared to a traditional DCS installation (see photos below). Wiring savings are a combination of material and labor costs for installing wire, cable tray, conduit, marshalling cabinets, junction boxes, terminal blocks, and IS barriers.

Emerson's multivariable field devices also help reduce material and labor costs. For example, the Rosemount 848T accepts eight independently configurable RTD, thermocouple, ohm, and millivolt inputs and communicates up to 128 temperature measurements on two wires. The 848T can reduce wiring costs by up to 70% when compared to traditional temperature sensor wired direct and multiplexer architectures (diagram below).
